This is a common hoof conditioner advertised for daily care for the horse’s hooves containing a lanolin. I believe that these types of products are often advertised in the manner to be used in maximum measures to insure greater sales. Rainmaker is OK but I do not like to use products like this on the entire sole of the foot. I believe that the contact of the sole with natural environment, like pasture dirt and grass, is essential to the health of the foot. One should not use this product if the horse’s hoof is too moist or if the horse stands in a wet environment. One should always wash the horse’s feet before applying. Prior washing (moisturizing) of the foot is essential for this product to work properly (the only moisturizer I know is water). I believe, when used on very dry hoof, this “greasy” product will prevent the access of water to the foot, especially when used on the sole as well. The surface of the foot should be dry while the hoof itself should contain some moisture within the walls as this product really serves as a sealer to keep the existing moisture in.
