|This picture shows various possibilities of penetration of nails or other sharp object. It also helps to evaluate the seriousness of these injuries.|
In a case of deep penetrations of a nail or a similar objects I find it necessary to have the foot ex-rayed by a veterinarian prior to removing the object ( if circumstances allow). Some of the penetration (mainly 6, 5 & 4) will require special antibiotic treatment. These injuries should not be taken lightly and a veterinarian presence and assistance is a definite must in all these cases.
All my comments are merely my opinions and beliefs gained from 40 years of professional life with horses. All drugs should be used only by the consent of a veterinarian and according to his instructions. A person who is with the horse everyday, should know him better than anyone else.
